Michael R. Durkin concentrates his practice in the areas of litigation and municipal law.  Michael received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 2004.  Michael is a 2007 graduate of the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2007. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Local Government Lawyers Association and a member of the Municipal Prosecutors Group. He has been admitted to the State Bar of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.


Michael is primarily engaged in the practice of civil litigation for both municipal and private clients. Michael has represented clients in various litigation matters in both state and federal court, including insurance coverage disputes, personal injury, general construction, breach of contract, professional negligence, post-judgment collection proceedings, premises liability, civil rights law and mechanics' lien litigation, as well as counseling his clients on employment-related issues, risk management and contract matters. He also has experience in the area of family law and domestic relations, including dissolution of marriage, parentage and related issues. Michael has consistently obtained successful outcomes for his clients in these various areas by way of negotiation, mediation, dispositive motion and trial. 


Michael is currently the Village Prosecutor for several of the firm's municipal clients. As a municipal prosecutor, Michael has experience in the enforcement of municipal ordinances and housing and zoning codes.


Michael has been named an Illinois Rising Star by Thomas Reuters’ Super Lawyers for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. The Rising Stars list recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys who are 40 years old or younger, and no more than 2.5 percent of Illinois attorneys are selected.  Michael is a 2016 recipient of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois’s Award for Excellence in Pro Bono and Public Interest Service for his work in the community. This award honors attorneys for their contributions in helping people most in need of assistance before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
